Empúries ruins consist of a Greek city (Emporion, which means marketplace and gives its name to our region “ Empordà”), and a Roman city. It counts with an interesting museum, the second most visited in Girona. In the summer you can request guided tours, even attend some theatre events.
It’s also worth visiting ancient villages near L’Escala:
- The Jewish Quarter “El Call Jueu” in Girona, it is one of the most visited and well preserved in Europe.
- The Medieval settlements of Peratallada, Vulpellac, Monells, Palau-sator, Pals, Castelló d’Empúries, Sant Pere de Rodes, Besalú and lot of othes.
Dalí Museum in Figueres was self-designed by the famous painter Salvador Dalí, is the world’s largest surrealistic piece of art. You can also visit his own residence, the “Casa-Museu Salvador Dalí”, in Portlligat near Cadaqués.
